Come in from the cold and enjoy the heartwarming sounds of the Spanish renaissance with Tomás Luis de Victoria’s O Magnum Mysterium; colonial harmonies of Tleycantimo choquiliya (Mexico) and Vamos a Belén (Bolivia); popular villancicos such as Huella de navidad (Argentina) and Ay si, ay no (Chile); and upbeat parrandas from Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Feel the passion, power and philosophy of the Nueva Trova, or new song movement. An array of magnificent instruments complements powerful interpretations of timeless songs and poetry about social justice and freedom of expression and love. Join us in tribute to two Latin American cultural icons whose inspirational artistry led to their exile and meteoric rise as global phenomenons: the late Argentinean singer Mercedes Sosa and Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti. Listen to choral music of Haiti and Chile, countries recently devastated by earthquakes. A special collection will be held during the concert to help with relief efforts. RITMO Y CANCIÓN: Interactive Latino Choral Music and Storytelling

Come and Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.  Fun for the Whole Family!

Interactive performance of different Latino rhythms and songs, and stories of the foolish and delightful Juan Bobo (Puerto Rican Amelia Bedelia). After the performance you will have the opportunity to "pet" our Latino musical instruments, such as quijada de burro (donkey jaw rattle), güiro (gourd scraper), chajchas (goat toenails rattles), and more.
