In the news: Cantigas concert introduced neglected choral treasures

Much concern is often expressed about the absence of music by African American composers in our nation's major concert halls. On yesterday afternoon, Cantigas, DC's premiere Latino chorus unearthed a treasure chest of choral works that ranged from sacred works to concert folk arrangements by Latin composers.  Perhaps, these composers are stereotyped and neglected just as much as the concert works of African American composers-if not more.

The concert was presented at the Cultural Arts Center at Silver Spring.  A diverse audience gathered in the intimate 'jewel box' theater.   Dr. Diana V. Sáez led the chamber chorus in a rich program that highlighed the variety of the Latino choral palette. Continue reading article
